Dashka Slater has written for such publications as More, Salon, Mother Jones, Sierra, The New York Times Magazine and The San Francisco Chronicle Magazine.

Her numerous journalism awards include a 2003 Maggie Award from the Western Magazine Publishers Association, a Media Alliance Meritorious Achievement Award, two feature awards from the Association of Alternative Newspapers, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the California State Bar, the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, and the Northern California Hospital Council.
